2 POEMS (this is not a pipe)

installation view, Scores in Transit: Resonances of the Plural, curated by Vidya Shivadas, Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa, IN (2025)

2 Poems are a play between text, texture and technics. They explore the act of reading – of recognizing and misrecognizing symbols and of assigning meaning through difference and semblance. They are staged as encounters between words and bodies that are meant to unsettle processes of meaning-making.

this is not a pipe is imagined as a calligram – an image which is at the same time a text which is at the same time an image. A computer program weaves together a database of videos and an endlessly repeating poem to produce unexpected combinatorics, disturbing the meaning that they produce together. The videos are sourced from datasets that are used to train machine learning algorithms to recognize human activities and environmental patterns. In that way they form the tapestry of the unconscious of many artificial intelligence algorithms.

Video datasets used in the work:

UCF101 – University of Central Florida dataset of videos collected from YouTube and classified into 101 action categories, used for training action recognition models.

BDD100K – A database of driving videos from dashcam perspective collected and classified by University of Berkley, California used for training autonomous vehicles.
